School Information

School InformationNene Valley Primary School is built on the former ‘British Sugar’ site off the former A605 Oundle Road in Peterborough, in the Woodston area, close to the centre of the city. This local authority community school, for children aged 4 to 11, serves the new housing development on the ‘Riverside’ site, where Persimmon, Barratt, Twigden and Wimpey are building a mixture of 1 to 5-bedroomed homes. The site is almost complete!

The total number of children on roll is currently 170. It is expected that the intake will continue to rise steadily over the next two years until the school reaches its capacity of 210 children. Almost all of the children are from owner-occupied homes on the development.

The school was designed by the local authority architects. It has seven classrooms, a hall which also serves as a dining room, a library and music room, a food technology room, a group teaching room and various ancilliary rooms. It has underfloor heating, a passive ventilation system and a sprinkler system.

The large grounds include a playing field with mini-soccer pitch, large climbing apparatus, willow tunnel and hill, a well designed outdoor reception play area with covered space, main playground with play markings, trim trail and seating, and outdoor classroom with a classroom sized gazebo, geology and woodland areas. The grounds have won both Peterborough in Bloom and Anglia in Bloom awards.

In addition, the school houses the Primary Behaviour Support Team administration unit and a dedicated base for a very small number of Key Stage 2 children with behavioural difficulties. The centre has two classrooms and is well staffed. The School and Centre attempt to work together to help the children integrate back into mainstream school.

We have an excellent range of ICT facilities with interactive whiteboards in six classrooms, two wireless laptop trolleys and three computers in each class with printers. All classrooms have overhead digital projectors and all teachers have their own laptop for planning and using in class.

We have a very active ‘Friends of Nene Valley’ who plan activities both for the children and the parents, e.g. car boot sale, summer fair, coffee afternoon, disco etc.
