At Nene Valley Primary School, our English curriculum is inclusive, engaging and builds on essential English knowledge and skills. This ensures our children are given opportunities to become confident, secure and enthusiastic readers and writers. Our English curriculum ensures all children are exposed to and understand a range text types, enabling our children to be more informed writers. Progress is built upon in the learning and application of skills is clearly planned for across each unit and across year groups. Our English units have a clear and relevant purpose for the writing outcome where our children; write clearly, accurately and coherently, adapting their language and style in and for a range of contexts, purposes and audiences

Our curriculum ensures our children acquire a wide vocabulary, an understanding of grammar and knowledge of linguistic conventions for reading, writing and spoken language. Grammar is taught discreetly, but reinforced in lessons, where content and skills are utilised.  Where skills and knowledge are closely matched to the unit being delivered the links will be made explicit during the session.
