Swifts

Swifts will be taught by Ms Scothern and Mrs Haq.

Welcome to Swifts

Welcome to Swifts' Class. We are a mixed Year 3 and 4 class, and our teachers are Ms Scothern (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) and Mrs Haq (Thursday, Friday).  The teaching assistants working in our phase are: Mrs Lowey, Miss Callaghan, Mrs Neesham and Mrs Poole.

Snacks and Break Time

If your child is moving from Year 2 to Year 3, please note that they will no longer receive a free snack at playtime.  If your child would like a snack, they will need to bring a healthy, nut-free snack with them, which they will put into the class snack box when they come into the classroom in the morning.  To avoid confusion, we would encourage all children to bring their snacks in a named container or bag.  Alternatively, the school tuck shop will be available for any children without a snack that day.

Children can have a carton of milk at break time, which parents can pay for through the Cool Milk website.

Lunchtime in Key Stage Two is from 12:30-1.30pm.

Children in Key Stage Two do not have an afternoon break, but we ensure the children have opportunities for movement breaks, such as the Golden Mile, and each session ends with a short game as part of our reward system.

School water bottles should be brought to school every day and contain water only.  These should be named clearly.  They can be purchased through Parent Pay.

Homework

Reading: Your child will take home their school reading book each day. We ask that they spend time reading at home every day and encourage adults at home to engage with their reading as much as possible.  When the children have finished reading their book, they will take an Accelerated Reader test in school that will test their comprehension skills.

Children will also have the opportunity to bring home the Story Suitcase, which will contain a book of their choice, a hot chocolate and biscuits to enjoy.  Please share the story with them and support them to complete a short book review in the class notebook.

Spellings: Children in Year 3 and 4 will need to know how to spell the common exception words for their year group. These can be found online and will be given to all children.

SPaG and Maths: This optional homework is available in the 'Homework' section of the school website for those who would like to engage in extra practice.  It will be updated regularly but does not need to be brought into school.

PE (PE kit)

Swifts' class will have P.E. on Mondays and Thursdays.

P.E. days can also be found by following this link: PE timetable.

Please also ensure that your child comes to school dressed in the appropriate kit on these days.  Long hair needs to be tied back on PE days, and earrings, if worn, should be removed.  If it is not possible to remove your child's earrings, please ensure they have tape in school to cover over their earrings during the lesson.

In warmer weather, hats and sunscreen are advisable.

Trips and Visits

One of our topics this term will be the Ancient Egyptians, and we are planning an exciting Egyptian day.

Year 4s will also have the opportunity to take part in an overnight camping trip to Ferry Meadows in the Summer Term.

Each class will also go swimming for one term as part of the curriculum.

Production

Each Spring Term, Year 3/4 perform a play, full of songs and drama.  All children across the Phase will take part.  Please don't miss it!
