History

At Nene Valley Primary School our history curriculum inspires our pupils to think creatively and critically about the past. Our history curriculum is sequenced in a way that allows our children to know more and learn more. Children find out about how and why the world, our country, culture and local community have developed over time, children understand how the past influences the present. Our history curriculum enables children to develop a context for their growing sense of identity and a chronological framework for their knowledge of significant events and people.

Our history teaching inspires children’s curiosity to know more about the past through equipping them to: ask perceptive questions; think critically; weigh evidence; sift arguments and develop perspective and judgement. The study of history ignites children’s curiosity about the past in Britain and the wider world,  influencing their decisions about personal choices, attitudes and values. At Nene Valley, our intent, when teaching history, is to stimulate the children’s curiosity in order for them to develop their historical knowledge, skills and understanding.
