Owls
“Every morning, when I enter the classroom, it is so pleasant seeing the amazing smiles and feeling the positivity from everyone. It is always so exciting learning something new, from spellings to something you didn’t even know existed. Having teachers that always believe in you and knowing that you can always count on them to help you is awesome!”
Welcome to Owls
Owls’ class is taught by Mrs Scothern (Monday to Thursday) and Mrs Jenkins (Friday) and is supported by Mrs Smail, Mrs Fogg and Mrs Farell at various times throughout the week. Children in Owls’ class work hard and are always happy to help each other.
Homework
Reading – Your child will take a STAR Reader test each term which will determine which colour book-band they are on. It is important that children have their personal reading book with them every day in school. However, we also ask that they bring their school reading book home each day so that they can spend time reading at home. When your child has finished a book, they will be able to take an Accelerated Reader quiz.
Spellings: As part of our ongoing teaching of spelling patterns and spelling rules, these will be addressed and taught in class. This will give us the opportunity to focus on individual gaps and any common misconceptions. We will provide feedback at parents' meetings on specific areas of weakness and any specific spelling patterns or rules that your child needs support with.
PE (PE kit)
Owls' class will have P.E. on a Monday and a Thursday. The children should come to school in their P.E. Kit on these days.
Please make sure that long hair is tied back on P.E. days, and earrings and watches, if worn, are removed. Fitness watches are permitted, however, they must be covered by a wristband (sweat band).
Trips and Visits
We are always very fortunate to be able to include trips and visits to enhance the learning we complete in school. We are looking forward to planning our visits for this year.
Class Assemblies and Performances
In the summer term, Year 6 will be taking part in a production. It is a great way for the children to sign off from Nene Valley before they embark on secondary school.
